The plausible mistake is blaming the flowers; the real error is skipping depth planning. Construction method must match stem structure and design lifetime: taped or wired hand-ties, armatures, frogs, and water sources each suit different work, and all cut material needs conditioning before use.
Mechanics are the hidden half of design. A hand-tied spiral suits bouquets carried the same day; individually wired stems give control over delicate heads but remove their water supply, so they demand wet-pack storage or water tubes; a chicken-wire armature or pin frog holds a vase design without foam and lets stems drink naturally. Choose the method from the stem structures involved and how long the piece must last, then write the choice into your plan like any other decision.
Worked scenario: a hand-tied bridesmaid bouquet of ranunculus and hellebore assembled the evening before an event. Plausible mistake: wiring every fragile stem, then storing the finished piece dry on a counter overnight. By morning the fine-petaled heads have collapsed.
